First Vatican Council
What: council of 714 bishops (1/3 from Italy, the others from the rest of the world. It was the first time Church leaders met since the Council of Trent (1551). The council declared the decree of infallibility. There were both positives and negatives from the council. the Italian Revolution (1870) and the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) interrupted the council before other issues could be discussed.
